1930 was a marquee year for the Cadillac Motor Car Company, with the introduction of the mighty V16 Motor, the first gun shot was fired triggering a Multi-Cylinder war for top honors in the luxury car market.
Battling the likes of Marmon, Packard, Cadillac produced one of the finest engines of all time. In 1931 they added the V12 to the model line. With 370 Cubic Inches, the V12 motor was even more responsive than its larger counterpart. The V12 Power plant is a smooth running quit engine that is very comfortable to drive at today's highway speeds of 65 mph. Coupled to these marvelous autos was an array of custom catalog bodies by many of the top bodybuilders of there day.
Offered here is a very rare Fleetwood body style number 4780, it featured a complete set of roll up windows to shelter you from the weather. Then when the top is lowered and the center posts are folded down you get a fully open phaeton, with fantastic lines and flow. It also featured a divider glass to protect the rear passengers from un wanted wind, as well as full privacy when the top was up. This car is body number 125 of the 125 produced, we are currently aware of only two other surviving examples of this fantastic body style. This vehicle is a fantastic example of a car with only three owners since new. Many features of the car remain largely original, including the interior that with the exception of the bottom cushions are all original. A new top and boot were fitted to the car as well. The paint has been done for many years and is starting to show some age. All the original wood is still in excellent condition, and still has the fleetwood factory stampings in the sills. It is a rock solid well preserved original automobile.
It is always a pleasure to drive cars that have never been fully disassembled. This Cadillac V12 runs and drives great. The motor is smooth and responsive. The car has been very well maintained over the years and rebuilt as necessary. The engine runs cool, and the syncro- mesh transmission shifts very smoothly. It is truly a car that is ready to be enjoyed and driven. An excellent surviving example of how a 1931 V12 Cadillac should run and drive.
The car is also currently optioned with an array of factory/dealer accessories, including..
